Wine is Healthy

The debate rages on as to whether wine is healthy or harmful to the consumer. To help end the debate, here are some of the beneficial qualities of wine, when consumed in moderation:

Digestion: Wine aids with the flow of gastric juices which enhance the digestive process. A glass consumed with the evening meal helps food digest as it makes its way through the system.

Heart Disease: Red wine helps drive bad cholestrol from the arteries and contains an antifungal compound which lowers serum cholestrol. Wine can reduce the risk of stoke and angina.

Viruses: Red wines contain polyphenols which are effective in the fight against viruses, such as cold sores/

Aging: Drinking wine in moderation leads to a lower rate of disability and mental illness among older people. The presence of boron in wine helps in the absorbsion of calcium.

Cancer: Red wine conatins an anti-cancer agent called 'quercetin' which becomes active when the wine naturally ferments in the body. Gallic acid is also found in wine which is known as an anti-carcinogenic.

Kidney: Wine can enhance the alkaline reserves which are effective in combating kidney acidosis.

Headache/Migraine: While there is no doubt that an excess of red wine, especially a cheap one, may lead to a headache, red wine actually inhibits an enzyme known as PST-P which detoxifies many bacteria in the digestive system. The absence of PST-P is linked to migraine.

Vitamins & Minerals: Wine contains sufficient quantities of potassium, calcium, iron, sodium, magnesium, and vitamins B and P.

If an "apple a day keeps the doctor away"...a glass of wine means you might never, ever need one!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Pregnant women should abstain from drinking any beverage with an alcoholic content
